Lyrics

The Magician

Just like a magician with a proposition, asking you to pick a card / In his left hand is the king of diamonds, in his right is the king of hearts. / What would you choose if your life depended on it? What would you choose if you were me? The boy who said he loved you until the earth wasn’t round anymore, but somehow let you slip away? Or the guy who will try to give you everything you need? / But he doesn’t make your knees weak, or affect the rate your heart beats, and you don’t close your eyes just to dream of him. And the world doesn’t disappear every time he draws near, and your veins don’t tingle when he holds your hand. / When your heart meets its counterpart you question if this love is true. Your fingers start to tremor north and south, surely that must be a clue! / What would you choose if your life depended on it? What would you choose if you were me? The boy who said he loved you until the earth wasn’t round anymore, but somehow let you slip away? Or the guy who will try to give you everything you need? / But he doesn’t make your eyes blind to the hurried passing of time that seems to happen when he’s around. And he doesn’t make your smile sore or send your logic crashing down, cos with him nothing else need exist. / What would you do? /They say that a magician has an intuition, and always knows what your heart will do. What would you do?

Me Without A You

Pulled over on the M4 BP suddenly life makes sense to me. We all get one single bullet to shoot to the stars or shoot to our heads if we desire – what do you desire? / Sometimes our eyes are covered by a blindfold. This time my heart was covered by stories of old, stories I’ve told, lessons I thought I had learnt. Guess I failed. Guess I failed. / There are things worth more than gold, worth more than our souls, worth more than the earth that we tread upon. / Guess Joni was right, try as we might we don’t realise how good those things are ’til they have gone. Now you have gone. / I’m like a pirate that loses his treasure down in the depths of the water. I’m like a father who loses his mind, after he loses his daughter. I’m like a ghost without a home. I’m like a plane without a sky. I’m like an old dictionary with one word too many explaining the reasons why. I’m like a sun that’s lost all it’s shine. I’m like a long road without any signs. I’m like the sound of the rain against windowpanes in the Summer. I’m like a boat without any sails. I’m like a postbox without any mail. I’m a me without a you.

Blue Notes

We can listen to jazz in your room with our eyes shut tight. Hear the saxophone laying its tunes all over our night. And when the blue notes slide all over our heads, I’ll be secretly hoping you will guide me into your bed. / And we can listen to records with the lights off and you can draw letters on my hand. And we can talk about predestination, are our lives just things He planned? And we can list our favourite black and white movies and our favourite comedy shows – I’m just grateful for this lesson you have taught me, perhaps the greatest one I’ll ever know. / That things will always get better if you want them to, just gotta let down your barrier and open up to all things new. And you’ll let light in to this dark room and see that happiness comes from nobody else but you. / And we can go to a Belgian cafe and order mussels and chips. And you will buy me a beer from which I’ll only take sips. And I’ll compare the seafood to your arms to coax out a smile. And we’ll confess our interest in each other though we’ve known for a while.

Metal Detector

Grab your metal detector, take it to the coast. You will find some treasure underneath the stones. Take it to your brother and wipe away your tears, so no one will know that you are filled with fears. / Your life will be so full of riches and so full of gold, so full of wealth that will never get old and so full of diamonds, so full of pearls, so full of everything that’s good in this world. But you will have lost the girl that loved you most. / Take it to a museum, display it behind the glass so your treasure will be seen by all the people that pass, and with your name on a label letting everyone see that you are fifty times richer than they will ever be. / Your life will be so full of riches and so full of gold, so full of wealth that will never get old and so full of diamonds, so full of pearls, so full of everything that’s good in this world. But you will have lost the girl that loved you most.

I love blue notes. I don’t know if you’ve heard of Miss Dance but it’s run by the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) in Blackpool. There are heats all over the country to get in and one of the 50 that did this year danced to your song Blue Notes. I wish you could have seen it because it fit so well with your music! I love the song and wish I could find the sheet music! Keep making us all smile,
    Han
